Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement: The Houston Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Copperfield-compatible flue liner replacement systems throughout Houston, and most full liner replacements run between $2,800 and $5,500 installed, depending on liner length, diameter, and access. We keep common Copperfield sizes on our trucks, so many jobs get done in a single visit. Homeowners usually find out their Copperfield liner has failed when they call us for a routine sweep and we pull out a camera that shows cracks, gaps, or a liner that has started to separate at the seams.
That camera moment is the whole conversation. If you already have Copperfield equipment in your fireplace or furnace flue, you know the brand. What you may not know is that even well-made stainless liners fail in Houston’s climate in ways that surprise people, and matching the replacement to the exact Copperfield setup matters more than the liner itself.
Which Copperfield Models This Applies To
Copperfield makes a range of chimney and venting products, but when Houston homeowners talk about Copperfield liner replacement, they are almost always dealing with one of three things: a Copperfield stainless steel chimney liner, a Copperfield fireplace insert liner kit, or a Copperfield direct-vent pipe section. The liner systems come in standard diameters (typically 4″, 5″, 5.5″, 6″, and 8″) and are sized to match the flue outlet on your specific appliance.
The gotcha we see constantly in Houston: the label on the visible cap or collar says Copperfield, but the liner itself was a universal aftermarket part that is now out of production. That is fine. Copperfield liner systems accept standard-length, standard-diameter stainless components, and we regularly match them with professional-grade equivalents from Copperfield, DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco. The key step is measuring the existing liner’s inside diameter and length, and checking the appliance outlet size. Get the diameter wrong and the draft changes enough to cause performance problems even if the liner looks fine on install day.
We are an independent Houston service provider, not a Copperfield dealer or warranty center. That means we are free to match your liner to the best available part, not push a brand because a distributor told us to.

Signs Your Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing
- You smell smoke in the house after a fire has been out for hours. A cracked liner lets combustion gases and old smoke seep back into the home through wall cavities or the attic. This is the most common first sign in Houston’s older wood-burning fireplaces.
- White or chalky staining on the chimney exterior brick. In Houston humidity, a failing liner lets moisture build inside the flue, and the salts and minerals wick through the masonry. You see white streaks on the brick that come back after rain.
- Your gas fireplace or furnace keeps tripping a rollout switch or showing combustion errors. A liner with separated seams changes the draft, so the appliance does not vent correctly and the system shuts itself down or sends the repair tech a fault code nobody can explain.
- Rust flakes or metallic particles in the firebox or at the cleanout. Stainless liners can corrode from the inside when Houston’s humidity plus combustion byproducts create acidic condensation. The flakes show up where you can see them.
- The last sweep report mentioned “spalling,” “gaps,” or “stage 3 corrosion.” If a previous company already noted liner damage and you postponed the fix, the damage has not improved on its own. Houston’s humid summers accelerate it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a standard single-story Houston home, a Copperfield-compatible flue liner replacement with materials and labor typically lands between $2,800 and $4,200. Two-story homes, steep roof pitch, long liner runs over 25 feet, or tight attic access push the job toward $4,500 to $5,500. The liner itself is usually 30 to 40 percent of the total; the rest is staging, cutting the old liner out, proper insulation and top-plate sealing, and the camera verification pass we do before we call it done.
Every Copperfield liner replacement we quote includes the same things, no exceptions:
- Written price before any work starts – the number on the quote is the number on the invoice.
- Camera inspection before and after – you see the damage on screen, and you see the finished liner when we are done.
- Materials from established chimney-trade brands – Copperfield, DuraFlex, HeatShield, Gelco, Olympia Chimney, or Famco, matched to your dimensions.
- The Kingswell Guarantee in writing – if a covered repair fails within the guarantee period, we return and correct it at no charge. That is the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it is not sold as an add-on.
DIY or Call Us?
A flue liner replacement is not a DIY job. The liner runs through the full height of your chimney, requires cutting the old liner out without damaging the flue tiles around it, and involves working at height on a Houston roof in heat that can hit 100 degrees. If the old Copperfield liner has separated, it is a fire and carbon monoxide risk until it is replaced, and a partial DIY repair can create the exact conditions that cause a chimney fire: a narrowed passage, an unsealed joint, or a gap that vents heat into the wrong place.
What you can safely do is check for the visible signs above: staining, rust, smell, or a recent inspection report flagging the liner. Then call us at (903) 961-6496 and we will bring the camera, show you exactly what the liner looks like inside, and tell you plainly whether the liner needs replacing now or whether you have time. Nathan Corliss would rather talk you out of a liner job than sell you one you don’t need. Tell you the price first, explain the work second, put it in writing third – that’s the whole system.
FAQs
A stainless steel liner installed correctly in Houston typically lasts 20 to 30 years, but the real lifespan depends on what is burned and how often the chimney is swept. Gas appliance liners tend to corrode faster from condensate, and Houston humidity shortens the life of any liner that is not properly insulated. Liners installed without the proper top plate or rain cap fail much sooner than the average.
Sometimes, but not often. Small gaps in clay flue tiles can be resurfaced with HeatShield or a similar cast-in-place system, but once a stainless steel liner has cracked or separated, the proper fix is replacement. Patching a cracked stainless liner creates a weak point that fails again. We will show you the camera footage and make the call honestly. Call (903) 961-6496 to schedule an inspection and get a straight answer.
Most single-story Houston homes have the old liner out and the new Copperfield-compatible liner installed in 3 to 5 hours. A two-story home with a long run and difficult access can take most of a day. We arrive with a written price, a real arrival window, and the most common liner sizes already on the truck, so there is no second trip just to bring a part.
We keep standard Copperfield-compatible liner diameters and lengths on the truck, along with DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco equivalents for field matching. If your liner is an unusual size or needs a custom length, we order it and typically install within a week. We do not make you chase parts. Call (903) 961-6496 with your appliance model or liner diameter and we will tell you over the phone whether it is something we have on hand.
If you have a Copperfield flue liner that is showing its age, call us at (903) 961-6496 for a free estimate. We answer the phone with a live person, we show up when we say we will, and we put the price and the guarantee in writing before we touch a tool.
