DuraFlex Fireplace Repair in Houston: What to Know First
We repair DuraFlex chimney liners and fireplace venting systems across Houston, and most jobs are done in a single visit the same week you call. A typical DuraFlex fireplace repair in Houston runs between $185 and $850 depending on what’s failed, and you’ll get a written price before we touch a tool. If you own a home with a DuraFlex liner and your fireplace is acting up, this page tells you exactly what we see on these systems, what it costs to fix, and when you can safely wait.
This is written for Houston homeowners with gas or wood-burning fireplaces vented through DuraFlex liners. We also service HeatShield and Gelco systems, but this page is about DuraFlex specifically, because these liners fail in their own particular ways. Call (903) 961-6496 if you’d rather just talk it through. A live person answers.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
DuraFlex is a solid product line, but nothing lasts forever, especially in Houston’s humidity and heat. Here’s what we actually find when a DuraFlex system stops working right:
- DuraFlex 316L liner corrosion at the appliance connector. We see this most often on gas fireplaces where the connector pipe meets the liner. Condensation from short burn cycles in mild Houston winters eats at the stainless, and the liner develops pinholes right at that joint. The fix is a new connector section and reseal, not a full reline. We check the rest of the liner with a camera before we recommend anything.
- DuraFlex Pro delamination in older installs. The Pro series uses a multi-layer construction, and after 10-15 years in Houston’s humidity, those layers can start separating, especially near the top of the flue where hot exhaust hits cooler outside air. You’ll see flaking or a rust-colored dust near the chimney cap. Depending on how much of the run is affected, we either repair the section or replace the liner. We’ll show you the camera footage before you spend a dollar.
- Improperly sized DuraFlex liner causing draft problems. Not every failure is the liner’s fault. We regularly find DuraFlex liners that were undersized for the fireplace they’re venting, meaning someone saved $50 on materials and the homeowner’s been living with smoke rollback or a lazy flame for years. We measure the appliance’s BTU rating against the liner diameter and tell you honestly if a proper fix means resizing. Sometimes it does, and sometimes a draft-inducing cap or a shorter run solves it.
- Crushed or kinked flex sections behind the firebox. DuraFlex flexible liners can get kinked during installation, especially through offset firebox connections. A kink restricts flow, which means weak flames on gas logs, soot buildup on glass, and incomplete combustion. We find these with a camera scope, then either straighten and reinforce the section or cut it out and splice in a new piece.
- Mounting hardware failure at the top plate. The top plate and storm collar that seal the liner at the chimney crown take a beating in Houston’s storms. When the sealant fails, water gets behind the liner, rusts the galvanized components, and drips down into the firebox. You’ll see rust stains on the damper or a musty smell in summer. We reseal or replace the top assembly and check for hidden water damage while we’re in there.
One thing that sets DuraFlex apart from some other liner brands: the 316L alloy is genuinely rust-resistant, which means most failures we see are installation issues or age, not manufacturing defects. That matters because it changes whether a repair is worth doing or a replacement makes more sense. We’ll tell you what we’d do at our own house.

Our DuraFlex Fireplace Repair Process
Here’s how a DuraFlex job goes at Ashby Chimney Houston, from the first call to the final handshake:
- 1
You call, we answer. A live person picks up at (903) 961-6496, 24/7. We ask what the fireplace is doing, what brand of liner you have if you know it, and whether it’s gas or wood. Then we schedule a visit.
- 2
We inspect before we quote. Nate or one of our techs comes out and runs a camera scope down the liner. We’re looking for corrosion, delamination, kinks, blockages, and water intrusion. You see the footage with us, in real time, on our screen.
- 3
We give you a written price. Not a ballpark. Not a “we’ll see once we get in there.” A written price for the exact repair, before any work starts. The number on the invoice matches the quote on the door. That’s the Kingswell Way.
- 4
We decide OEM vs. aftermarket with you. For many DuraFlex repairs, OEM sections are the right call, especially on newer systems still under warranty. For out-of-warranty fixes, there are quality aftermarket 316L components that meet spec and cost less. We walk you through that decision with real prices for both options.
- 5
We do the repair, test, and document. We complete the work, run a draft test and a combustion check, and take before-and-after photos. You get a written guarantee covering the repair, not a verbal promise.
- 6
We leave it cleaner than we found it. Drop cloths, shoe covers, a vacuum pass before we go. If anything fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Fireplace Repair Costs in Houston
Here’s honest money, because we’d rather you know before you call than be surprised when the quote lands:
- Minor repair (reseal, connector replacement, small patch): $185 – $350
- Mid-range repair (section replacement, top plate and collar rebuild): $350 – $650
- Major repair (extensive corrosion, partial reline, draft correction): $650 – $1,200
- Full DuraFlex liner replacement: $1,400 – $2,800 depending on chimney height and access
What moves the price in Houston: two-story homes cost more than one-story, steep roof pitches mean more safety equipment, and cramped attic access at the firebox neck adds labor. Gas log models with remote controls and blowers sometimes need extra disassembly to reach the liner connection. You’ll always know the exact number before we start. We work with DuraFlex components daily, and when a different product makes more sense, we can pivot to HeatShield or Gelco without skipping a beat. The phone rings to a live person any hour, any day. Tell you the price first, explain the work second, put it in writing third, that’s the whole system.
FAQs
It depends on the age of the liner and who does the work. Newer DuraFlex systems still under manufacturer warranty generally need OEM components and a certified installer to keep coverage intact. We’ll check your warranty status before we start and recommend the repair path that protects it. As an independent DuraFlex service provider, we’ll be straight with you about when a warranty claim is the better move and help you file it.
Most DuraFlex components and quality aftermarket equivalents are available to us within 1 – 3 business days in Houston. Common items like top plates, connectors, and 316L flex sections we often have on the truck. If we need to order something, we’ll tell you when it’ll arrive and schedule around that date, not leave you guessing.
If the liner is less than 10 years old and the damage is localized, repair usually makes sense. If it’s older, corroded in multiple spots, or the delamination runs more than a few feet, replacement starts to be the better money. We’ll show you the camera footage and tell you honestly which way we’d go if it were our house. There’s no pressure either way.
We’re typically on site within 2 – 4 business days in most Houston metro areas. If you’re smelling gas or seeing smoke back up into the room, tell us when you call and we’ll move faster. We don’t promise same-day because we book real appointments, but we do show up in the window we give you.
You call us, and we come back and fix it at no charge. Every repair we do carries a written guarantee through the Kingswell Guarantee, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we make it right or you don’t pay for the second trip. No fine print, no re-quoting the job at your door. Call (903) 961-6496 for an exact quote, estimates are free.
